Roblox's AI game builder has been trialling in New Zealand
Roblox says Build, its prompt-to-game tool, has had more than 100,000 people try it since an alpha launch across the Tasman.
Build is Roblox's new mobile-first creation tool. In an 8 October newsroom post, Roblox explains that a user types text prompts, and an AI agent turns them into a game: code, visual assets, gameplay systems, UI and controls. The game can then be published to Roblox players.
The alpha launched in New Zealand. Roblox says that, using data up to 1 September, more than 100,000 players have used Build to try making a game, and about 9,000 Build games have been published. Of the people who made a game with it, 71% had never used Roblox Studio.
Most of the post explains how Roblox grades the games Build makes. Each one is scored separately on its plan, its code, a playtest and how it looks. In the worked example, an obstacle course scored 98 out of 100 for code but 31 for design. Roblox's verdict was that the game worked, but it isn't one that anyone would choose to play twice.
Roblox also says complaints that a game wasn't what the user wanted have fallen from 18% to 3% since the New Zealand launch.
