The new Street Fighter film opened in North American cinemas on Friday 16 October and finished the weekend at number one. Boxoffice Pro's weekend report puts its three-day domestic opening at an estimated US$31 million from 3,575 cinemas, including US$4 million from Thursday previews. Box Office Mojo lists the domestic opening as US$30,775,377.

Paramount distributes the film, which Capcom and Legendary co-funded, and Kitao Sakurai directed it. Deadline reports a global opening of US$51.1 million, with US$20.1 million from 65 international markets. Australia opened at US$1.6 million, one of the film's number-one markets.

Deadline also says the start was lower than hoped, with a US$70 million worldwide opening the target, and that the crowd was mostly older fans. Boxoffice Pro's audience figures back that up: 35 to 44 year olds were the biggest group, at 28%. The film carries a B- CinemaScore.

For comparison, Deadline notes the 1994 Street Fighter film opened to US$6.8 million domestically, unadjusted for inflation.
